| I was born in Sherman, Texas, in 1978. I have always enjoyed traveling and learning about other cultures, which led me to teach English in Mexico. I enjoy reading and I often think about language and its effect on the way we interpret visual objects. In 2001 I received my BFA in painting and sculpture from Oklahoma State University, but since then I have dedicated myself to jewelry making while living first in Lawrence, Kansas, and now in Dallas, Texas. In Lawrence I was privileged to have my studio at the Fitch Natural History Reservation, where my grandfather, Henry Fitch, lives and does research. My husband and I moved to Dallas, where my studio is in my home, and I am excited to be producing a body of work that evolves and responds to my environment. The combination of the "Big City" with our continued traveling seems to have a positive effect on my work. Ideas of post-industrial rebirth, and life after the landfill are worming their way into my work as the "Corrugated Life Series." Recently, I have been learning more about hollowware construction. Who knows where that will lead. |
